Bank of Scotland Children’s International Theatre Festival

The start of Festivals Edinburgh

Founded to safeguard Edinburgh’s future as a festival city, Festivals Edinburgh launched in 2007. Currently comprising eleven of Edinburgh’s biggest festivals, from the Children’s Festival through to Hogmanay, each festival has a CEO or director on the Festivals Edinburgh board. Together the organisation has worked on initiatives ranging from reducing carbon footprints to researching the festivals’ shared audiences.

Did you know…?

The 2007 programme had a special focus on the Netherlands; check the media gallery for photos from Introdans, Theater Artemis…

Grid Iron’s Once Upon a Dragon took audiences out of the theatres and into the woods for a colourful, magical experience.

Catherine Wheels’ Hansel and Gretel turned the fairy-tale into an immersive, promenade experience. “It probably came from seeing a Punchdrunk show!” says Artistic Director Gill Robertson. For our current Festival Director Noel, it’s one of his favourite memories from visiting the Festival as a delegate.
