Scots on Broadway!
The brand new Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund was created to support Scottish artists in finding a platform for international and Scottish touring. In 2009 Imaginate was able to bring four of the best Scottish theatre companies to New York for an autumn season at the New Victory Theatre on New York’s Broadway.
Thanks to the Expo Fund, Imaginate has since helped Scottish performances tour the breadth of the country, from Dumfries and Galloway to Shetland. In 2019 two new shows, This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing (Stellar Quines) and Superhuman Heroes (The Letter J) toured venues across Scotland for two weeks prior to the Festival
Did you know…?
The Broadway run almost didn’t happen, as all the artists’ visa requests were initially turned down.
In the media gallery you’ll find a letter that Tony wrote to industry leaders, asking for letters in support of their appeal against the ruling – luckily, it worked!
